this weekend i would like to try 203b with 288g or 288c, small tatrix horn for tweeter with 808/802/or eimalar ea175 on 511 horn, bottom will be split 210 with 515b
not sure if i will live with this but what crossover points should i go for, have n500 and marchand active 2 way , is this a really bad thing to do, altec did make quite a few 300hz horns but never a crossover
help, plus if i look busy my wife wont ask me to do yard work

Hi.
Altec crossovers are usually very basic units. My opinion only but I'd prefer active crossover anytime. Disclaimer- I haven't heard some of the more sophisticated passive units being built. Again just opinion I didn't care for the 203 for home use. It's a tight pattern long throw horn, I much prefer the ten or even more cell horns. We did use 203's for spot fill with the big system.
IMHO the muticell is the best midrange horn ever made. I used them for sound reinforcement with 290's way past the time when other companies quit.
These days I try to make the gear as compact as possible to fit on smaller trucks and use less fuel to transport. But I miss my multicells.

Hi,
I'm using 229-16L drivers matched with either, 203b, MR564 or straight without a horn.
If I use a single order active crossover, with a ten to sixteen watt amp what do you think would be lowest safe XO that wouldn't damage the diaphragms.
In the past my 511 horns and drivers I used an XO with about a 700 hertz f3 point, didn't seem to be a problem. That amp and XO was home brew and disassembled. I'm wanting to recreate it again for the 299's. I would build this new XO with a switch to raise/lower the f3 instead of pots.
Thanks for any advice or stories,
Dwayne

Hi,
The 299-16 ohms from 500Hz to 15000HZ .The low frequency limit of the MRII564 is 500 HZ.
Max power for 299-16 50 watts.
